On this day in Nintendo history (May 27),…

  • In 1986, Dragon Warrior was launched in Japan on the Family Computer. Players control a youthful hero in this Chunsoft role-playing game who sets out to destroy a creature known as the Dragonlord. The game opens in King Lorik’s room in Tantegel Castle, where the hero learns about the Dragonlord, whom he must vanquish, as well as the stolen Balls of Light, which he must recover. The hero embarks on his adventure after acquiring some equipment and coins.

  • A Tiny Bit of… In Japan, Magic Made Fun: Psychic Camera (known in North America as Master of Illusion Express: Psychic Camera**) was published in 2009 for DSiWare. Impress your friends with mesmerizing magic in this non-game made by *Tenyo with 8ing — a collection of easy-to-perform tricks that you can take with you everywhere you go! The Nintendo DSi seems to be endowed with amazing psychic powers. Simply ask a spectator to think of a card, and then use the Nintendo DSi system’s camera to capture a picture of them.

  • In Japan, DSiWare published New English Training: Learning with Tempo – Beginner Edition in 2009. The user is given audio snippets and is tested on their pronunciation and “rhythm” of spoken English words and phrases in this educational program produced by Nintendo SPD. To make English seem more natural, the goal is to follow the English speaker as closely as possible.

  • In Japan, Pocket Rurubu Kyoto and Pocket Rurubu Tokyo were published on the Nintendo DSiWare system in 2009. These Nintendo reference software items include a sightseeing tour guide and journal, as well as information from Japanese Rurubu travel guides. Each version includes landmarks and maps of Japan’s many regions and towns, as well as a travel planner and ideas. During your tour, you may snap images and add notes, which you can later attach to the maps and play back as a slideshow anytime you choose.

  • Puzzle In Japan, Iro Iro Monthly Crossword House Vol. 1 for DSiWare was published in 2009. Tose has included a variety of problems in this puzzle game, including regular crossword puzzles, illustrated crosswords, Sudoku, and more. Enter words into the boxes using the hints. You type the characters straight into the panels, and you may put notes in the boxes to refer to later if you’re not sure.
