The new GeForce RTX 3080 packs a punch, with the most powerful gaming GPU available for consumers today. With 8GB of GDDR6 memory and an impressive 12 GB frame buffer, this card is able to handle 4k-resolution games with ease.
The “evga geforce rtx 3080 12gb ftw3 ultra gaming review” is a video card that has been released by EVGA. The card was released in August of 2018 and it is compatible with the latest generation of games, such as Fortnite.
NVIDIA quietly introduced the RTX 3080 12GB GPU, a new RTX 30 series version, around a month ago. It is believed that it would address some of the issues with its top-tier mainstream GPU only having 10GB of VRAM accessible as opposed to the 16GB that AMD makes available on its current rivals’ GPUs.
In addition to increasing the amount of memory on the card, NVIDIA also increased the memory bandwidth and added a few more GPU Cores, putting it directly between the RTX 3080 10GB GPU and the RTX 3080 Ti GPU. As a result, it should perform slightly better than its 10GB sibling on performance charts.
The EVGA 12GB GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, EVGA’s top-tier GPU, will be the subject of our launch review today.

The GeForce 3080 12GB GPU is based on the GA102 die produced on Samsung’s 8nm process. It sports 12GB of GDDR6X at 19GHz on a 384-bit bus. It hosts 8960 GPU Cores which is 256 more than its 10GB variant. Additionally, the total board power has been bumped to 350W. Clocks listed by NVIDIA indicate a 1260MHz base clock and a 1710MHz Clock Boost as its stock configuration.
EVGA 12GB GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING (12G-P5-4877-KL)
On our test bench, today is the EVGA 12GB GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING (12G-P5-4877-KL) video card. Among the six RTX 3080 cards that EVGA offers, the FTW3 ULTRA GAMING sports the fastest factory overclock that EVGA currently offers on the RTX 3080 12GB GPU. It is equipped with EVGA’s iCX3 cooling solution which includes three fans.
This GPU, like every other member of the GeForce RTX 30 Series, is unavailable in stores but can be purchased directly from EVGA for $1299.99 at the time of writing. Get in the EVGA notification line and wait your turn to get the card (at least, once the queue reopens for new registrations). The card sometimes appears at NewEgg and BestBuy, but it remains just as difficult to locate as any other RTX 30 Series card. Although this costs almost twice as much as the RTX 3080 in 10GB configuration, there is no MSRP against which we can compare it (nor a Founders Edition).
We will contrast this GPU with the EVGA RTX 3080 10GB FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, the EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, and the ASUS TUF 6800 XT OC Edition to see where it stands.
The EVGA 12GB GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING comes in a regulation size video card box that identifies it as an RTX 3080 12GB FTW ULTRA model from EVGA. Once we cracked open the box, we found a black-clad GPU with silver-ish trim sporting three fans and a solid metal backplate. As you can see, the EVGA 12GB GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is indistinguishable from the EVGA RTX 3080 Ti from GeForce FTW3 ULTRA GAMING aside from the top lettering indicating the GPU type (not seen above).
EVGA has given the 12GB GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING a factory overclock of 90MHz on the Clock Boost, bringing it from the stock 1710MHz up to 1800MHz. Keep in mind that the Clock Boost is a target based upon power, workload, and temperature and that value will typically be exceeded via the card’s boosting algorithm NVIDIA GPU Boost. It also sports 8GB of 19GHz GDDR6X memory that is equal in speed to the reference Specifications. EVGA offers a 350W TGP on the card.
From a size perspective, it’s a large size card that’s no different in size than the other high end 30 Series FTW3 cards from EVGA. Specifically, it is 11.8 inches long, 5.38 inches tall and 2.75 slots wide. For additional comparison, the RTX 3080 10GB from GeForce. Founders edition’s length is 11.2 inches long, 4.4 inches tall and 2 slots wide, so the EVGA video card is six-tenths of an inch longer, 1 inch taller, and three-quarters of a slot wider.
iCX3 Cooling by EVGA
Three HDB 2.0 noise motor fans with fan blades that have raised “E”s on them are used by EVGA as part of their iCX3 cooling system to decrease noise. The fans have an asynchronous fan mode, and when the temperature drops below 55 degrees Celsius, they will shut off. To increase airflow and decrease exhaust recovery, cutouts are included on both the back plate and the PCB. While being 9.7 percent quieter than the iCX2 cooling system, EVGA claims a 5.1 percent increase.
Information and Images
Three HDB 2.0 and silver trim that lights up with RGB goodness are featured on the card’s front. It has three Display Port 1.4a connectors, one HDMI 2.0 connection, and is two and a half PCI-e slots wide.
The EVGA 12GB GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is equipped with a backplate to help further the distribution of heat.
Three 8-pin PCI-Express ports are needed to power the video card. This video card has a hefty power demand of 750W, as recommended by EVGA.
The “evga 3080 12gb” is a video card from EVGA. It’s designed for the ultimate in gaming performance and features a 12GB GDDR6 memory that can be overclocked to 1350MHz.
